Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Celebrates 90th Birthday

The city of Ijebu-Ode came alive on Sunday as the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, celebrated his 90th birthday.

 

The occasion, which also marked the 64th anniversary of his coronation, was attended by dignitaries from across the country, including Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.

 

In his remarks, Governor Abiodun praised Oba Adetona’s remarkable leadership and contributions to the development of Ijebuland and Ogun State. The governor noted that the monarch’s wisdom, guidance, and vision have been instrumental in promoting peace, progress, and unity in the region.

“Oba Adetona’s reign stands as a monumental success, epitomising the ancestral heritage of the Ijebu people. His dedication to governance and education led to the establishment of the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance, a pioneering institution in Sub-Saharan Africa, reflecting his enduring legacy of progress and development.” Dapo Abiodun wrote in a post on X.

 

The birthday celebration, held at the Cathedral Church of Our Saviour, Ita-Olowajoda-Ijasi, Ijebu-Ode, featured musical performances, traditional dances, and a special thanksgiving service.
