FG Selects Babcock University for National Sports-Education Pilot Programme

The Federal Government has selected Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, as the only private institution among four tertiary institutions chosen for the first phase of the National Sports and Education Excellence Programme (N-SEEP).
The initiative, developed jointly by the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Sports Commission, is designed to integrate elite sports development with quality education, enabling student-athletes to pursue academic qualifications while developing their sporting careers.
The other three pioneer institutions are the University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the Federal College of Education, Okene. The first phase is scheduled for the 2026/2027 academic session, while the broader programme will eventually cover nine tertiary institutions designated as Sports and Education Centres of Excellence.
Under N-SEEP, participating institutions are expected to develop programmes covering areas such as sports science, coaching, sports medicine and rehabilitation, sports technology, data analytics, sports business, facility management and sports administration.
Babcock’s selection follows its involvement in major sporting activities, including hosting the 2025 Nigeria Private University Games Association competition and serving as the Games Village for the 2025 National Sports Festival.
Babcock University has also announced that the programme is expected to launch in November 2026, as part of efforts to establish structured academic and professional pathways for athletes beyond their active sporting careers.
