The final burial and memorial service of Madam Selimot Arike Sulaimon-Quadri, who passed away at the age of 100, was a heartfelt event held on a Friday, the occasion drew family members, friends, neighbors, mosque members, and community leaders, all gathered to pay their respects.The event began around 9 a.m. with the Fidua prayer, led by Imam Sodiq Alimi of Ita-Ijagba, with Imam Munirudeen Thabit and Imam Abdulateef Taiwo Oduniyi also participating. The family, from the firstborn to the youngest, was present to honor the woman who lived a century of impactful life. The prayer was accompanied by various supplications, including prayers for forgiveness and blessings for the family, led by Imam Sukunmi Badmus. An offering was collected to support the bereaved family.
The main burial celebration was hosted by MC Malian Boy, also known as Mr. Angel. It commenced with an opening prayer by Alahji Aliyu, followed by introductions of distinguished guests, including imams, pastors, friends, and community representatives from various towns. The MC highlighted Madam Selimot Arike’s kindness, affectionately called Iya Eleyin, noting her love and influence on those around her. Family members, including her children—Kehinde Sobeyejo, Adijat Kuburat, Fattimoh Anjorin, Iya-Ijo Bilikisu, and Abdu-Wasiu—along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were recognized.
Guests shared touching memories of the deceased’s caring nature, with Mrs. Adesina Funmilayo recounting her gratitude for Madam Selimot Arike’s support. The children danced to prayers, symbolizing their love and respect, followed by moments of reflection and tributes. The event concluded with a communal meal, offering guests a chance to celebrate her life. The program ended with a closing prayer by the Imam, who prayed for safe travels and blessings for all present.
