Ogun Police Rescue Abducted Truck Driver, Neutralise Two Suspects, Recover Two AK-47 Rifles
The Ogun State Police Command has rescued an abducted professional truck driver and neutralised two suspected kidnappers during an operation along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road.
The Command disclosed this on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in a statement by its Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi.
According to the police, the victim was abducted at about 11:10 p.m. on August 25, 2026, in the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.
The Command said its Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an operation following the incident and, acting on actionable intelligence, traced the suspects to a hideout along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road.
The police said two suspected members of the gang were neutralised during the operation, while other members reportedly fled with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.
A search of the hideout led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, two mobile phones and ₦2 million in cash. The police said the money was reasonably suspected to be part of the proceeds of criminal activities.
The Command said the bodies of the two suspects had been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while efforts were ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for the operation and urged members of the public to remain security-conscious and provide timely and credible information to the police.
He also called on residents to report persons seeking treatment for suspected gunshot injuries, as such information could assist ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Ogun State Police Command said efforts to track the remaining members of the gang were ongoing.
