OOUTH Doctors Commend Ogun Government as Revised Allowance Payments Begin

Doctors in Ogun State have commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for approving and commencing the implementation of the Professional Allowance Table (PAT) and Specialist Allowance for medical doctors in the state.

The development was confirmed by the Ogun State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), which said the Specialist Allowance took effect from July 2026, while the Professional Allowance Table is being implemented in line with the Federal Government-approved structure.

The development follows concerns earlier raised by resident doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, over the non-payment of the revised professional and specialist allowances.

In June, the OOUTH Association of Resident Doctors suspended a 10-day warning strike after the Ogun State Government assured the doctors that the professional allowance would be paid on or before July 31, 2026.

The Ogun NMA described the implementation of the allowances as a positive step, while noting that gaps remain in the welfare of doctors across the state.

The association also urged the state government to sustain its efforts to improve doctors’ welfare and working conditions.

The implementation is expected to address one of the major welfare concerns previously raised by resident doctors and strengthen ongoing engagements between medical practitioners and the state government.
