Oju-Ore Road Project: Residents Demand Urgent Government Intervention
Residents and motorists in Ota, Ogun State, have called for urgent government intervention over the ongoing construction of the Oju-Ore section of the Ota–Idiroko Road, citing concerns over the pace of work and the difficulties being experienced along the corridor.
The Ota–Idiroko Road project, being executed by Laralek Ultimate Limited, commenced in July 2024 and includes the rehabilitation of the road, drainage works and construction of bridges along the corridor.
The project has continued to attract public attention, with road users previously raising concerns over traffic congestion, flooding, access difficulties and the pace of construction.
In April 2026, concerns were also reported over the quality and progress of work on the corridor. The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Michael Komolafe, said corrective measures were being taken and indicated that sections of the project were expected to be completed in phases between 2027 and 2028.
Safety concerns have also emerged around the construction area. In January, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency directed traders and commuters to vacate the immediate vicinity of the Oju-Ore bridge construction site following a fatal accident.
The latest calls for intervention have renewed attention on the need for effective supervision of the project to ensure that construction work meets the required standards and progresses within the approved timeline.
The Federal Ministry of Works is expected to continue monitoring the project as construction progresses, while residents and other road users await improved access and safer movement along the corridor.
