President Tinubu Holds Emergency Meeting with Governors to Address Insecurity, Economic Hardship

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has convened an emergency meeting with all 36 state Governors in response to the prevailing challenges of rising food prices, insecurity, and economic hardships, The high-stakes gathering, taking place at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, also includes the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FTC) Chief Nyesom Wike, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

 

While the specific details of the meeting’s agenda are not yet disclosed, it is gathered that President Tinubu aims to collaboratively address the pressing issues of soaring food costs and the overarching economic challenges. The urgency of this gathering underscores the gravity of the situation, which has sparked protests and increased criminal activities, contributing to heightened tensions nationwide.

 

Amidst these economic tribulations, President Tinubu has directed his economic team and relevant officials to explore solutions actively. Furthermore, the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency has received approval to make available approximately 102,000 metric tons of assorted items, including rice, maize, and millet, among others.

 

Governors from various states, including Ekiti, Delta, Borno, Lagos, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Edo, were observed entering the Council Chambers for this crucial meeting. A broad representation from across the nation, encompassing Yobe, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Plateau, Kaduna, Sokoto, Niger, Taraba, Adamawa, Cross River, Ogun, Enugu, among others, adds weight to the collaborative efforts to find lasting solutions.

 

Following this emergency meeting, sources indicate that an immediate monthly National Economic Council (NEC) gathering will be convened, presided over by Vice President Shettima. These collective efforts demonstrate a commitment to finding comprehensive solutions to the multifaceted challenges affecting the nation.
