Ogun State Shuts Down Tyre Recycling Company for Environmental Violations

The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has taken decisive action by sealing a tyre recycling company in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State due to environmental infractions.

Farouk Akintunde, the Senior Special Adviser to the state Governor on Environment, issued the closure order during an enforcement tour conducted by the Agency. The company was found guilty of operating without adherence to environmental regulations, posing a potential threat to the well-being of the community residents. Akintunde urged companies to comply with the state’s environmental laws to ensure the safety of lives and businesses.

Prompted by complaints from the community residents regarding the emission of hazardous carbon-monoxide by the company, the Agency swiftly took action to investigate and subsequently shut down the operation.

Akintunde emphasized the importance of prioritizing the safety of the host community and warned against practices that could jeopardize people’s health or affect local businesses. He stated, “Lives of your host community should be a major priority to you; desist from practices that can be injurious to people’s health and or affect businesses, as the present administration will not take it easy with any environmental law defaulter.”

The closure serves as a clear message that environmental laws must be adhered to, and the government is committed to ensuring the well-being of the residents.
