Ogun Assembly Vows Enhanced Legislative Oversight for 2024

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, has pledged an intensified focus on conducting robust legislative oversight on all government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This commitment aims to enhance transparency and accountability in implementing the Year 2024 Appropriation Law.

During the plenary session marking the commencement of the new year at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan Abeokuta, Speaker Oluomo emphasized the necessity of strategic measures to ensure effective legislative oversight. He stressed the Legislature’s role as a partner in the State’s progress, assisting the government in value-for-money creation and facilitating a more coordinated budgeting process for increased democratic dividends.

Seeking support from fellow lawmakers and the Assembly’s management and staff, Oluomo outlined the importance of collective efforts in maintaining Ogun State’s prominent position among other states. He expressed confidence that the recently passed 2024 budget would build on the State’s economic foundations, complete ongoing projects, and initiate new ones across the three Senatorial Districts.

The Speaker highlighted the anticipated benefits of the 2024 Appropriation Law, encompassing improved healthcare services, advancements in the educational system, infrastructural development, agricultural and food security initiatives, and incentives to foster ease of doing business. Oluomo projected that these developments would attract increased foreign and local investment, thereby enhancing the State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

In acknowledging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s achievements, Oluomo commended the President for fulfilling promises, addressing corruption, managing currency stability, and tackling issues such as fuel subsidy removal to enhance the well-being of citizens.

Barrister Seun Adesanya, representing Ijebu North East State Constituency, also shared plans to facilitate more developmental projects in his constituency. Additionally, he revealed initiatives to empower secondary school students from SSS 1 to SSS 3 in Information Communication Technology, contributing to their knowledge of computer technology.
