Port Harcourt Refinery Resumes Crude Oil Production

Nigeria’s state-owned Port Harcourt Refinery has begun processing crude oil, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to boost domestic fuel production.

According to Olufemi Soneye, spokesperson for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the refinery has commenced operations at 60% capacity. This development comes after multiple delays and missed deadlines.

“The refinery is currently processing 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day, with a combined capacity of 250,000 barrels per day,” said Soneye.

The refinery’s restart is expected to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuel and alleviate some of the pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves. The development is also likely to have a positive impact on the local economy, creating jobs and stimulating economic activity in the surrounding areas.

While the refinery’s current production capacity is at 60%, it is expected to ramp up to full capacity in the coming months as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has committed to ensuring a stable and efficient operation at the refinery, with a focus on meeting the country’s fuel demand and reducing reliance on imports.
