ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike at Imo State University Over Unresolved Welfare Issues
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri branch, has declared a total and indefinite strike over the alleged failure of the Imo State Government and the university management to implement the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement on staff welfare and conditions of service.
The union announced the industrial action on Monday, August 10, 2026, during a press conference in Owerri, saying the agreement reached with the Federal Government on December 23, 2025, was expected to take effect from January 1, 2026.
ASUU had earlier raised concerns over the delayed implementation and, in June, issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Imo and Anambra state governments, warning of an indefinite strike if its demands were not addressed.
The latest action is expected to disrupt academic activities at IMSU as the union insists that it will not return to work until the agreement and outstanding welfare issues are fully addressed.
The development adds to growing concerns over the implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement across state-owned universities.
