We are not Saboteurs, Association of Senior Staff Of Banks Reaffirms By: Ogunleye Oluwapelumi
The Association of Senior Staff Of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions, popularly known as ASSBIFI, released a statement to plead with the public to stop the destruction of banks and other properties, stating that the scarcity of new Naira notes is not their fault.
The statement partly reads” Our attention has been drawn to the recent attacks on some of our institutions leading to the destruction of equipments, and damage of building while endangering the lives of our members and other staff of banks.
“We strongly condemn this act, which is Bourne out of the propaganda against banks as the sole cause of the inability of the public to have access to cash across the country.
“While we assure the public of our commitments to ensure their pain is ameliorated, we appeal for calm and understanding at this time as we call on the security agencies to ensure the safety and security of our lives and bank property.
“We are not saboteurs, but are professionals who follow and implement policies of regulators and will never be engaged in any act that will bring our institution or person to disrepute, ” the statement concludes.
Scarcity of funds and low access to the new Naira notes still continues as the public laments and clamor to the government and all necessary agencies to do something about the situation urgently.
