SAGAMU LG HOLDS EXPANDED PEACE AND SECURITY MEETING

Sagamu Local Government has held an expanded Peace and Security Meeting with representatives of security agencies, traditional institutions, religious bodies, youth organisations and other relevant stakeholders to review the security situation across the Local Government and strengthen collaborative efforts towards maintaining peace and safety.

The meeting, held at the Conference Room within the Office of the Executive Chairman was presided over by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Isiaka Salami, who represented the Executive Chairman, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate (AFO), who was unavoidably absent.

In attendance were the Local Government HOLGA, Mrs. Temitope Ejide, DGSA, SLG, representatives of the various security agencies, the Chairman of the Security Committee, Remo Traditional Council, the Elepe of Epe, represented by Oba Musiliu O. Soile, the Radanuwa of Idado, as well as representatives of religious and youth bodies.

The meeting reviewed the security situation across the various jurisdictions and considered the challenges peculiar to each area. It was reported that no serious security incident had been recorded during the period under review, while concerns raised at the previous meeting had been addressed.

The meeting emphasised the need for vigilance among security stakeholders, citizens and residents of Sagamu Local Government. Everyone was encouraged to promptly report suspicious activities or situations that could pose a threat to public safety to the appropriate security agencies, in line with the message: “See something, say something.”

The need for stronger collaboration and information sharing among security agencies was also discussed. Participants agreed on the importance of unhindered inter-agency communication, with relevant contact details to be shared among the agencies. A WhatsApp group will also be created to facilitate faster communication and information sharing.

The representative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) informed the meeting that a Counselling, Treatment and Rehabilitation (CTR) Centre is now available in Sagamu to provide counselling, treatment and rehabilitation services for persons affected by drug use and abuse.

The Vice Chairman appreciated the NDLEA and other security agencies for their immeasurable efforts and round-the-clock service in safeguarding lives and property across the Local Government. He acknowledged the vital role of the various agencies and urged them to sustain their collaborative efforts.

The meeting also addressed traffic management, particularly the need for enforcement of one-way traffic regulations to improve compliance and ensure safer movement within the Local Government.

The Vice Chairman reiterated the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining peace and security, urging all stakeholders to continue working together, share relevant information promptly and remain vigilant within their respective jurisdictions.

The Sagamu Local Government will continue to support effective collaboration among security agencies, traditional institutions, community stakeholders and other relevant bodies towards sustaining peace and security across the Local Government.
